Spirit of Christmas Press Release:

The East Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, along with title sponsor Mossyrock Auto Value and the businesses and residents of Mossyrock, are presenting the second annual “Spirit of Christmas” festival Friday, Dec. 7th through Sunday, Dec. 9th . Local Christmas tree farms are donating trees for the “Avenue of Trees” on State St. and the “Courtyard of Trees” located in a large fenced park-like area on State St. directly across from the Chamber. Businesses and community volunteers are decorating the trees, and students from Mossyrock schools have been invited to assist too. The DeWeese Holiday Craft Fair (named in honor of Sherri DeWeese, who coordinated Mossyrock’s craft fairs for many years, before passing away early in 2007) will take place all three days at the Community Center. The Mossyrock Garden Club’s “Look-A-Rama,” now in its 50th year, will be happening at the Grange on Friday and Saturday. All weekend, DeGoede Bulb Farm will be having their annual “Poinsettia Extravaganza.” Throughout the weekend, many businesses in Mossyrock will offer special sales and contests. On Friday, Dec. 7, there will be a Candlelight March at 5:30 pm to usher in the festivities and also to highlight Pearl Harbor Day. Local veterans will be participating in the walk, including one who was at Pearl Harbor on the fateful day in 1941. Children from the local school and child care center also plan to participate. Following the Candlelight March, there will be a live nativity scene, caroling, and the official tree lighting at the Courtyard of Trees. That evening, 5-8 pm, there will be a Tree Auction at Integrity Realty & Mortgage. Businesses have donated fully-decorated trees and the auction proceeds will be designated towards town beautification efforts. On Saturday the festivities continue with a scavenger hunt for kids, climbing wall, and hayrides between downtown, DeGoedes, and the Grange. Restaurants will be hosting eating contests on Saturday, including pizza for both kids and adults, biscuits and gravy, tacos, and hot dogs. There will be a Torchlight Parade at 4:30 pm, followed by visits and photos with Santa in the Community Center. At 7 pm, the Spirit of Christmas Talent Show returns for a second year to the Mossy G Theater, under the direction of Martha Sturgeon, music director for Mossyrock School District. Directly following the talent show, the Red Hot Rollers (local chapter of the Red Hat Society) will present a fun fashion show in the theater, beginning around 9 pm. On Sunday, two special events are scheduled. A Holiday Buffet Brunch happens 10 am-2 pm at the new Lake House Restaurant at Lake Mayfield Resort. A portion of all sales will be donated to the Mossyrock Food Bank. Then at 5:30 pm, an interdenominational “Singspiration” will be held at Mossyrock High School, followed by a dessert social time.
