GRAND MARSHALS PICKED FOR BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL PARADE
The 3rd Annual Blueberry Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug 1, with a parade at noon. This year Paul and Ruth Ghosn will serve as the grand marshals for the parade in recognition of their service and dedication to the Mossyrock community. The Ghosns donate their beautiful yard for activities during the festival and have long been involved in a variety of community activities. Paul grew up in Mossyrock, graduating from Mossyrock High School in 1949 and from the University of Washington in 1953. After serving two years in the army, he returned to Mossyrock to help his father with the family businesses. Paul purchased the family grocery store and managed the theater and hotel. The other family business--the Ghosn cannery--processed local wild berries and beans from the 1920s to 1960s, when it was destroyed by the Mossyrock Dam flooding. Paul drove a Mossyrock school bus from 1959 until 1988; he describes it as his "get away" from real work! He also served on the city council and as mayor, worked with the Fire Department, and worked with the Boy Scouts and Little League. When asked about what he liked most about growing up in Mossyrock, Paul said "Growing up in Mossyrock."
After living in Massachusetts, Chehalis, and Morton, where she raised her children, Ruth retired from her work as an office clerk, moved to Mossyrock and married Paul. Now, she likes to do yard work and spend time with her family. The couple are also active members of their church. The Blueberry Festival Committee invites everyone to come and say "thank you" to the Ghosns for all they do for Mossyrock and join in the family fun, food, and festivities.
