My name is Shawn Inmon, and I am a MHS Grad from 1978. In the 70's, some friends of mine and I formed a KISS tribute band called KISS II. From 1976-1978, we played everything from Talent Shows to full concerts in Mossyrock, Onalaska, Napavine, etc.
Several months ago, some of our friends asked us to reunite for the All School Reunion and maybe put on one last show. We agreed, but now are having trouble locating a venue for the show. We want to do the whole thing as a fundraiser for several of the wothwhile causes at Mossyrock High School.

Remington Stanley Benefit Baseball Tournament
There will be a benefit tournament this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Mossyrock,WA for youth in minor or major leagues (24+ teams). The general public is encouraged to come; no need to be a part of a team to support this effort. There are two separate silent auctions with huge baskets donated, arcade type games, raffles, bake sale, hot dogs, tacos, hamburgers, face painting and more.
Remington is a local boy fighting for his life at Seattle Children’s Hospital. He entered the hospital in February, diagnosed with a septic hip, however after surgery he went into toxic shock. After a 6-week long stay in intensive care he now has a new room. His struggle for life is not over by any means and to my knowledge; he underwent surgery #14 today. Your support is appreciated, stop by the ball fields and have some fun while helping out a local student.

Veterans Affairs Opens New Health Care Clinic in Chehalis
Services will include primary and mental health care, social work, lab and basic X-ray services. Pharmacy prescriptions will be filled in the local area with ongoing prescription medications filled by the VA.
"Veterans who currently receive their care through VA Puget Sound and live in the immediate area will have a choice of continuing their care with their current VA provider or transferring their care to the new South Sound Community Based Outpatient Clinic," said DeAnn Lestenkof, acting director for VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
The new clinic will be located in the Lewis County Mall at 151 N.E. Hampe Way, Suite B2-6 in Chehalis.
Letters will be going out soon to enrolled veterans asking if they would like to transfer their care to the new clinic. The clinic plans to see its first patients in mid-May.
Beginning Monday, veterans can contact VA Puget Sound Health Care System's centralized call center to transfer their care. Call 800-329-8387 and select option 2.
Veterans who are not currently enrolled in VA health care but would like to receive care at the new clinic can call 800-329-8387, ext. 7-6542 to request an enrollment packet. Information also is available online at http://www.va.gov./

Blueberry Festival / Car Show Dinner Report
A great meal was enjoyed by all at the 2010 Mossyrock Blueberry Festival kick-off dinner on Friday Jan 29th. 35 partners and volunteers came together to share soups. Salads, and breads, and of course, delicious home made desserts. The main topic of the meeting was the extraordinary growth of the festival ( almost 8,000 visitors last year!) and how to accommodate that growth. The Granny Squares Quilters will once again sponsor the quilt show and raffle another beautiful quilt. Proceeds will again go to MAAL`s Youth Leadership program. The Car Show Team is gearing up for another successful car show and plan to have more than the 150 cars they had last year. The Car Show has grown significantly each year of the Festival. MAAL will be working with its partners and the City of Mossyrock to create the best Festival yet. Tom Meade provided a large map of the City of Mossyrock for all to consider in the planning process. In attendance were Jack De Geode, Tom, Terri Wright, the parade coordinator, Juli Simon, vendor coordinator, Blueberry Festival volunteers, Shaun, Billie, Sonya, and Wilma.
*STREET CLOSURE. All agreed that the closure of State Street needed to be extended from Williams to Court Streets, but still leaving traffic open on both.
*PARADE. The parade route will remain the same as the past years but all the staging will take place on Isbell (allowing turn around at the Mossyrock Grange) to allow traffic flow to continue on State Street until commencement of the parade.
* SECURITY. The City of Mossyrock will take responsibility for contacting additional law enforcement and MAAL will provide food and drink at the police station for law enforcement volunteers.
*PARKING. Volunteer and vendor parking will be on the Hull property (entrance on State Street). All agreed that we need an additional Logistics meeting devoted to parking, with the goal to provide parking before people get into town.
*VENDORS. It was decided that al vendors will be placed along State Street (including the Sertoma Beer Garden and the Aldrich`s picking machine) on both sides from Williams to the Community Center. This will give more continuity and visibility for the vendors. Special consideration will be made for our Mossyrock businesses.
*SIGNAGE. All agreed that more signage will be needed, especially for traffic flow, parking, location of events, and

One more chance to hear WSDOT, Commissioner Grose, the Sheriff and WSP discuss traffic safety improvements for the intersection of Highway 12 and SR 122. This Thursday Feb. 11 at 7pm in the Community Center. Next opportunity in Mossyrock will be at the Blueberry Festival in August.

Dear Representative Swecker
Memorial Day weekend 2007, my son Cory became one of those DOT statistics at the subject intersection. Though he was airlifted and spent 8 days at Harborview, he was luckier than Ryan in that he survived that horrific collision and after two years of operations & rehab is as close to normal as he is ever going to be.
Following that accident there was a similar outcry from the community and an exhaustive traffic analysis performed by local residents to bring the traffic light to one of the most deadliest intersections in the state. The analysis and results of this study were provided to the appropriate DOT safety departments. The school district whose grounds abut Hwy 12 and whose elementary age students cross that intersection daily to attend school submitted a request for a traffic light to address their safety concerns.
Like many other parents in this community I assumed that the funding would soon follow the approval to install a traffic light system at the intersection. As time often does, the months of non action slipped by without many people noticing until December 8th. When I look into the Rashoff's family eyes I feel somewhat guilty that I wasn't more proactive in following up with the traffic light system request.
This time will be different. I will not rest or assume that the process will bring the traffic light system to that intersection before another driver or youthful pedestrian joins the statistics that compel our attention. I would like to offer my assistance in coordinating the necessary requirements to fund and install the traffic system. I have project management, communication skills, and time I'm willing to contribute. If necessary, I have the means and the resolve to initiate civil action if that is what it is going to prompt the state DOT to fund and install a traffic system in the next quarter. Cory's medical bills and subsequent impact on our health care system was in excess of 200,000.00 dollars. When your child is fighting for their life there is no check a parent isn't willing to write. As I stated earlier we were lucky in that we had that option. I want to assist in following through with your very visible remarks to the media that in this situation "it is my turn to ask for help".
Given the recent accident statistics at this intersection, I would expect the engineering study needed to justify the traffic system to be brief.Quite often these studies cost as much as the solution. But even more costly are the consequences of delay or non-action. Please advise how I can be of assistance in expediting the process in getting a traffic system installed.

Mossyrock SD Levy Info

ELECTION DATE: FEBRUARY 9, 2010
Dear Voter: 
In December, the Mossyrock School District Board of Directors adopted a resolution calling for an election to seek renewal of the maintenance and operations levy. This request is to replace the existing levy that is currently being collected. It is not an additional tax.
We are providing you with information on this ballot issue because we would like to inform you of the facts concerning this important election. We invite your questions. WHY A LEVY ELECTION?
The Mossyrock School District receives funding from state, federal, and local sources. Most of the District’s income comes from the state, but the state does not fund at 100% of what is needed for basic education. In addition, most of the federal funds are earmarked for special programs only.
Local funds from voter-approved levy collections accounts for 9.3% of the district’s budget or $550,000 per year. We are hopeful that state levy equalization funds will be available next year. Mossyrock School District will receive them contingent on levy approval. This should amount to approximately $140,862 per year, which is about 2.5% of the budget.
According to Governor Gregoire’s budget proposal, several program areas (Learning Assistance Program, K-4 class size support, middle school vocational program, highly capable program) were cut. Taking into account the Governor’s recommendation, the legislature will determine exactly what reductions will be made. While this levy will not make up for anticipated cuts from the state, levy renewal will enable the district to more closely maintain educational programs at the current level and continue the programs and staffing that the levy has funded in the past.
IS THIS IN ADDITION TO THE CURRENT LEVY?
NO! This levy would replace the current levy which was approved two years ago. The anticipated tax rate of $1.19 per $1,000 assessed valuation is LOWER than the current levy rate. The table below will help you calculate the approximate cost.

In December, the Mossyrock School District Board of Directors adopted a resolution calling for an election to seek renewal of the maintenance and operations levy. This request is to replace the existing levy that is currently being collected. It is not an additional tax.
We are providing you with information on this ballot issue because we would like to inform you of the facts concerning this important election. We invite your questions. WHY A LEVY ELECTION?
The Mossyrock School District receives funding from state, federal, and local sources. Most of the District’s income comes from the state, but the state does not fund at 100% of what is needed for basic education. In addition, most of the federal funds are earmarked for special programs only.
Local funds from voter-approved levy collections accounts for 9.3% of the district’s budget or $550,000 per year. We are hopeful that state levy equalization funds will be available next year. Mossyrock School District will receive them contingent on levy approval. This should amount to approximately $140,862 per year, which is about 2.5% of the budget.
According to Governor Gregoire’s budget proposal, several program areas (Learning Assistance Program, K-4 class size support, middle school vocational program, highly capable program) were cut. Taking into account the Governor’s recommendation, the legislature will determine exactly what reductions will be made. While this levy will not make up for anticipated cuts from the state, levy renewal will enable the district to more closely maintain educational programs at the current level and continue the programs and staffing that the levy has funded in the past.
IS THIS IN ADDITION TO THE CURRENT LEVY?
NO! This levy would replace the current levy which was approved two years ago. The anticipated tax rate of $1.19 per $1,000 assessed valuation is LOWER than the current levy rate. The table below will help you calculate the approximate cost.

Blog Error
Mossyrock Community Blog inadvertantly posted the Father Daughter Dance to be held February 13 at the Mossyrock Community Center. Actually the dinner and dance will be at the Mossyrock Grange. Get your tickets from City Hall, before they are all sold out.

2010 MOSSYROCK BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL
(Sat, August 7th) annual kick off partners and all volunteer meeting will be held on January 29th, Friday at 6 pm at the Mossyrock Community Center. All are welcome. Dinner will be served! Be a part of this successful and fun community wide event. We had almost 8,000 people visit Mossyrock last year! Plenty of opportunities for individuals and groups to participate. We are looking for food and craft vendors, entertainers, and other fun events we can incorporate into the Festival.

COMMUNITY MEETING
A community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12 - 3:30 p.m. at the Mossyrock Junior/Senior High School gym.
Washington State Department of Transportation conducted a traffic study at the corner of Hwy 12 and SR 122/Williams St. in December to decide what safety changes could be made to that intersection. They have analyzed their data and will present their findings and plan for the upgrades.
Planned speakers for this meeting will be Southwest Regional Administrator Bart Gernhart and Deputy Regional Administrator, Rick Sjolander. They have also invited the Mossyrock Mayor, the City Council, and the Washington State Patrol.
