Thank you so much for sharing your story. I cannot even imagine what you and your family had to go through or what you may still be going through. My heart and prayers go out to you, as I am certain there has been sacrifices and hardships to overcome.
As of today, I am not certain what more work needs to be done. I have been in constant contact with WDOT and my colleagues to request a traffic light. My goal is to get the approval for funding with we are in session.

Chris, regardless of the past, now is the time to do something. If I had one simple request it would be for the entire community to help me in persuading the Chair of Transportation, Senator Haugen

Below you note (editor: Above you read) the e-mail response I received from Wa State Senator Swecker regarding the process in getting a traffic system installed at the Williams - Hwy 12 intersection. Senator Swecker is doing what he can as a member of the Washington State Senate transportation committee to fund this long overdue transportation enhancement. Senator Swecker has requested that the community at large help in persuading the Chair of Transportation committee,

Senator Haugen http://www.leg.wa.gov/Senate/Senators/Pages/haugen.aspx in granting the necessary funding for the traffic system. The Washington state legislature is currently in session for the next 60 days. I'm asking for your assistance in getting Senator Swecker's request and contact information for the Chair of Transportation committee, out to our community to assist in persuading Senator Haugen and his colleges to approve the necessary funding for a traffic system at the Williams - Hwy 12 intersection.

Given the state budget shortfalls and funding priorities this year, I believe it is necessary for a voluminous community response / committee input to assist with legislature prioritization of transportation requirements. Please distribute this information to as many district / community members as possible requesting that they respond to Senator Swecker's request for community assistance in persuading the transportation committee to fund and expedite the installation of the safety system before

Mossyrock Area Action League

Our next board meeting is our annual meeting. This Thursday the 7th from 330 till 430. We will be voting in 2 new board members. Still waiting for the agenda from Glenn. (We will try to have everything ready to post at least a week before the meeting to get on the BLOG). After the board meeting we will be carpooling to Olympia to attend the Farm Business Celebration of Enterprise for Equity (the visitor at the social, Lisa Smith). We will be bringing this training to Mossyrock and will be meeting graduates from the training.

BENEFITS TO HELP FAMILIES OF MOSSYROCK ACCIDENT VICTIMS

The East Lewis County Chamber sends its sincerest condolences to the family of Ryan Rashoff (parents Lori and Ron, brother Nick, sister Kendra, and extended family), who was killed in a tragic accident at the intersection of Hwy. 12 and Williams St., at the entrance to Mossyrock, on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. We also pray for Ben Lamotte, who survived the accident, and his family. A memorial service for Ryan Rashoff will be held in the afternoon on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Mossyrock High School. The Mossyrock community is holding two benefits this week for the families: Rashoff Family Chili Feed, Silent Auction and 50/50 raffle: Thurs., Dec. 17, 4:00-9:00 p.m. at the Mossyrock Community Center. All about RuFES

What is RuFES? RuFES is Rural Family Economic Success. Mossyrock was chosen along with 6 other communities state-wide to participate in a three day action-institute sponsored by the Annie E Casey Foundation AND THE Northwest Area Foundation. This action institute offered intensive training in how to bring family Economic Success to our community. The Mossyrock Team included Mossyrock Area Action League board members Glenn Aldrich and Wilma Sofranko, Mossyrock PD Officer Rebecca Sutherland, Tammy Mocan, Branch manager of Sterling Savings in Morton, Donna Wilson, board member Mossyrock School District, and Dick Larman, Executive Director of the Lewis County Economic Development Council. This team, along with other volunteers, will work on two projects over the next four months that will address increasing economic success for our families. Since reliable transportation was identified as a need we will conduct a survey that will allow our community to voice their concerns and possible solutions to creating reliable transportation to jobs and education opportunities. The second project will be a day long entrepreneurship workshop scheduled for early March. Look for regular updates and details on these important projects. Black Friday Parent's Day Out

This is a "Kid Sitting" fundraiser for all you bargain shoppers, from 5am until 5pm on November 27th the day after Thanksgiving. Language Exchange Program Begins

Hi all, Our first language exchange class of the season will be this Tues. Oct. 13th starting at 3:30- 4:00. (you can come early or leave late if you need to.) We will be meeting in room 105 of the high school. (the old home economics room.) We will be meeting on Tuesdays and on Fridays. It will be informal as it was last year, but we have some additional software that should be very useful to us. You can download a free version of this at http://www.byki.com . Some of you have told me that you like having flash cards along with the more intuitive programs we have used so far. This is it! It will make virtual as well as print out actual flash cards. We will have a copy of the deluxe version which will allow us to input any words or phrases we would like. You can put pictures, audio, or even video on these! It is also useful for anything a student might need to memorize. History dates, geometry theorems, civics facts, etc. etc. It could be used to drill kids on their multiplication tables, and their spelling words. It's a really great tool for memorizing all kinds of facts. This year we will be pairing a Spanish student with each English student so you can help each other learn. Jenny, will still be there on Friday to help with pronunciation and grammar, but each student will also have a student tutor that will be a native speaker of the language he/she is learning. To do this, we will need more English students! Please help us out in finding the people who wish to have help learning English. MAKE A CHILD'S DREAM COME TRUE

Please take a close look at these instruments. If any band instruments are hiding in your closet dust them and donate them to the Mossyrock School Band Department. Mrs. Sturgeon the Mossyrock band instructor from 5th thru 12th grade has an abundant group of 5th graders taking band this year. Twenty eight students need band equipment, most without the means to buy/rent their own. Mrs. Sturgeon does her best to repair and do upkeep on available instruments but has no resources to buy more equipment for the new students. With parents work schedules and after school activities, many students have little or no time to practice at home. To help alleviate the situation while encouraging students about the importance of being in the music program, Mrs. Sturgeon volunteers her time, opening her classroom before and after school so students can drop in to practice. She has reported as many as fifteen students practicing their instruments after school from 3-4 PM. She has a love for these children and the music they make. Lets do our part to help these wonderful students keep up the good work. THE MOST NEEDED ITEMS ARE CLARINETS, FLUTES, TRUMPETS, AND ALTO SAX. So take a minute to dig out that old instrument. Do not procrastinate they need them now. Box it up and send it to Mossyrock School District, or if you live in our area just stop on by and drop it off at the High School Office. Park and Recreation Facility for Whole Area

A group of us met with Rebecca Sutherland, who is working on the grant application, a week ago. Our first step in getting a Park and recreation facility in Mossyrock is to submit a comprehensive plan....due in January. Fortunately we don't have to reinvent the wheel. We can use prototypes from other communities that have been successful at this. We do, however need extensive input from the community that will be served by this facility. This means the city of Mossyrock plus all surrounding areas such as Silvercreek, Salkum, Cinebar, etc. Communities as far away as Morton and Ethel would be served by a pool if the plans include that...since the nearest pool available to the public is 40 miles away in Centralia. (Thornbeck's) We are planning a public forum to get community input next Friday, Sept. 11th before the game. It will be from 5:30 - 7 at the multipurpose room of the Mossyrock Schools, and food will be served! People will be able to come in, get a bite to eat, give us their thoughts and opinions about this, and go on to the Mossyrock/Morton football game afterward. We need a large turnout for this, so your help in getting people to attend is appreciated! I'm attaching a pdf file of the flyer we are distributing. Mossyrock Community Explores Park Options

Mossyrock City Council has given our reserve officer Rebecca Southerland permission to continue her research and grant applications for a city park. Mossyrock Area Action League is helping her compile the research and poll our area residents for their opinions on this project. Please attend the free dinner (pregame) on Friday September 11 and fill out a survey form. Everyone's opinion is important and the survey will assure your voice is heard. Some of the grants she needs to apply for have deadline dates that are quickly approaching. So please come fill out a survey, enjoy your dinner, and the Mossyrock/Morton(WP) Game afterward.
